Client gifting in India sits at the intersection of relationship-building and compliance. Done right, it deepens partnerships; done wrong, it creates awkwardness.
Respect gifting policies. Many corporates cap gift values (often ₹500–₹2,000) for compliance. When in doubt, ask — it shows professionalism, not ignorance.
Match the milestone. A ₹500 hamper for a ₹50 lakh contract renewal feels thin; the same hamper as a Diwali gesture feels generous. Context sets the value.
Festive beats arbitrary. Diwali, New Year and company anniversaries give your gift a reason. Unsolicited gifts can feel transactional.
Personalise the card, not the gift. A handwritten note referencing the partnership's specific wins outperforms premium upgrades.
Avoid alcohol and overly personal items unless you know the client well. Gourmet dry fruits, premium pens and quality drinkware are universally safe.
Finally, deliver to the office with discretion — and never make the client carry it home from a meeting you invited them to.
